Fried Apples

It's a great fall morning, I am up early than necessary to await on a repairman who will show up between 8 and 5. Since I have to be up, I might as well be productive and making something yummy to eat.

Upon inspection of a mostly empty fridge, I decided on some buttermilk pancakes topped with fried apples. I know you can open a can and just heat them, but homemade fried apples are just so amazing! You must make them!

Fried Apples
Serves 4

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2-1 cup dark brown sugar
4 large apples, peeled and sliced
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
dash of ground cloves
dash of nutmeg

In a large heavy bottomed skillet, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Once the sugar and butter are melted and bubbling, add the apples and spices. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until apples are almost cooked through. (For thin sliced apples, it will take about 4 minutes). Once the apples are almost done, turn the heat up to high and finish cooking for 1-2 minutes to thicken the butter and sugar mixture.

Serve as a side dish, topping, or by themselves.
